Our Choir at OLGC is open to any child in Years 2-6 who loves to sing and wants to learn how to sing better, and sing as part of a group.
There are LOTS of good reasons to join the Choir at OLGC...
Our singing voice is our first instrument, as unique to each individual as their fingerprint. Singing is as good for physical health as it is for mental well-being, as YOU are your instrument.
Singing also has many benefits for a child’s general learning and development – listening & memorising, reading music skills, learning patterns and counting, even story-telling!
Learning to sing together in a group has its own technical requirements, requiring additional skills to those of solo singers – such as harmonizing, blending, balance, and intonation. Singing in choir will also enhance music skills for children learning other musical instruments.
Kids who sing in the choir also learn to work together to achieve a common goal – to sing “as one voice”, rather than many voices.
Choir is also a great place to build a child’s confidence and make new friends across the grades. It takes guts to get up and sing in front of an audience! Singing in choir means your child does not do this alone; instead, they do this alongside their peers, creating a sense of pride and school spirit. Kids will take this confidence with them wherever they go – to answer questions in class, stand up for beliefs, or try new things.
Besides… singing is just a whole lot of fun and makes us happy!
So come and join the school choir at OLGC!
TUESDAYS @ 7:45-8:30am
with Mr. Nathan and/or Miss Abbie
in the Band/Music Room (D3) at the end of the Kindy block
Hi everyone - my name is Nathan Stark.
I grew up just down the road in Frenchs Forest, and it’s such an honour to take on the directorship of the wonderful OLGC choir so lovingly nurtured by my own singing teacher, Sarah Webster.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and have worked professionally as a tenor across music theatre, opera, on the concert stage and within the Church as a cantor and chorister, both in Australia and Europe. I made my professional debut with the West Australian Opera in The Merry Widow and went on to appear in several of the company’s productions, including Lucia di Lammermoor, Don Giovanni, La Bohème, The Cunning Little Vixen, La Traviata and as a principal in Sweeney Todd. During my time with the company, I also toured as a soloist to remote and regional schools and communities, bringing live opera and music education to young audiences. Other performing highlights include joining Adele’s 2017 tour choir; starring alongside Silvie Paladino in Morning Melodies at Hamer Hall (Melbourne), touring throughout Venice with the Gaulitanus Chamber Choir; performing in La Traviata at Teatro Aurora in Gozo, Malta; and singing with the Cathedral of the Assumption Choir in Gozo.
However, I’ve truly found my calling in leading music - in my work as a choir leader, vocal educator and music director. I’ve worked with children and adults, including adults living with disability; in schools, churches, theatre companies, corporate and community programs. I’ve had a long association with the Australian Girls Choir, teaching junior programs right through to the Performing Choirs in Perth and Sydney, and have conducted performances at venues such as the Perth Concert Hall and the Sydney Opera House. I also currently serve as a Cantor and Director of Choirs at The Lakes Catholic Parish, serving the churches and communities at St. Joseph’s (Narrabeen) and St. Rose (Collaroy Plateau.
I believe that if you have a voice, you can sing, and I strive to create a welcoming, supportive, and joy-filled space where everyone can grow, have fun and experience the joy of community through choir.
Hi everyone! My name is Abbie and I am so excited to be working with the OLGC School Choir.
I have been singing since I was 7 years old, and started my classical vocal training (with Mrs. Webster!) in 2016. I am a proud member of the Sydney Philharmonia Choirs, singing in VOX - their young adult choir, and also sing lead vocals in a local band. I love to teach, and have taught flute, piano and vocal lessons at a local music school since 2023.
I can’t wait to meet you all and start singing together!
