Felicity Stanwell is an experienced band conductor and instrumental tutor who loves helping young musicians grow in confidence and enjoy making music together. She thoughtfully selects repertoire that suits each ensemble and believes inclusive, well-balanced bands create the best musical and social outcomes for students.
She has prepared primary school bands for school concerts, eisteddfods, and music festivals, and has a particular passion for building strong band programs in smaller school communities. Felicity is known for her friendly, practical approach to recruitment, introducing instruments in classrooms, running blow tests, and helping students find the instrument that best suits their natural embouchure. She also understands how important friendships are in music and encourages students to learn alongside friends to keep rehearsals fun and motivating.
Felicity specialises in primary school bands and works across several schools in Sydney’s north as a conductor, sectional tutor and clarinet/saxophone tutor. She has previously worked at Terrey Hills Public School, St Ives Primary School and St Luke’s Grammar School (Bayview) and currently shares her week between Belrose Public School, Covenant Christian School, Wahroonga Adventist School, and Our Lady of Good Counsel. She enjoys growing band programs under her direction, both in size and musically.
With over 30 years’ experience as an instrumental tutor, Felicity has supported many students through AMEB exams and HSC Music. She loves band so much that she still plays herself as a member of the Northern Beaches Symphonic Wind Ensemble often participating in A Grade at the Australian National Band Championships.
As the mum of three musical children, Felicity understands the realities of busy families and home practice. When she’s not making music, she enjoys designing, painting, creating and spending time with her husband and children.
